Christmas 2010

Okay, so the kids got up 5.20, naturally excited. Today has been the hottest day for a good while, and after hearing how cold it is in Britain my mini home sickness quickly subsided. Been for lovely Xmas lunch. So far lovely day.

John's Sabatical

Another week over, another deal.

A week of mixed emotions we are still looking for a property, we have had one hell of a storm, the spanish have had an air strike which has halted flights in turn played havoc with business especially as it is a big fiesta weekend in Spain and John is returning to the UK for Xmas and New Year though he plans to be back in January.
Can't believe another week and my little boy will be 12. Scary!!!
Can't say I am missing the snow at all, though Teide did have some the other day, sitting on the beach with 23 C looking at the snow and putting the Xmas tree up is bizarre to say the least.

November Rain

Notice how well wrapped up the kids are!

Deal

Thanks for all my wonderful birthday presents which have been slowly arriving over the last week, the hamper from Diana was a wonderful suprise, sweets have just about gone already, though have been shared. I wore my new dress from Mum and dad to work yesterday. Can't believe that is is December next week. Happy 40th Diana and happy first wedding anniversary David and Diana, happy birthday Joanna and Brian. think thats the next week covered.

Got my first deal on Tuesday, so providing it goes through it will be worth a bit, Nice to break the duck.

I can't believe how much snow the UK has already, madness! How weird it was seeing a picture on facebook of our house covered in snow, made me realise how much I want this to work out here, the whole thought on snow is unappealing here, especially when we were sat outside until midnight last night, albeit in cardigans but even so. We have had quite a bit of rain this last week but mainly during the night but it is nearly December.

Well I better go and dy my roots and get ready Natalia's friend is over later.

Linda Visit

Linda has been over this week we have seen her a few times which has been lovely. We went up to Los Gigantes today.

Yesterday after I finished work we went for a meal and then to a bar where Natalia became the star again, she is so content expressing herself over here.
Have so much to do before tomorrow, will write more when I have a little time.

Work Work Work

Can't believe that another week has gone!!!

James and I have worked long hours this week. James has had a couple of deals I haven't as people keep saying it is a numbers game and if I keep doing what I am doing then it will happen. The problem where I am is people are required to invest big bucks but when they do it is a good payday, and at this time of year holidays are cheaper so there isn't as much financial logic. Having said that I have achieved a record "the longest presentation ever at the Palacio de Isora" I unintentionally beat the last record by a good 20 minutes 5 hours but timed it very badly as I finished at 2.55 and the canteen closes at 3pm and it is a 10 minute walk, also it meant I was free for the 3 O Clock wave, my tour after that only lasted 2.30hrs as our hotel was not their typical holiday.
James is quite ill with flu at the moment, though still at work.
Linda arrives tomorrow and we are all looking forward to it although the house is a tip due to long hours and James being ill.
Temperature has dropped here the last week, only about 20 degrees and I can actually feel the drop, having said that still in shorts and tee shirt.
We still haven't found the time to hunt for a new property though Playa San Juan and Alacala are top of the list this week.
James took kids to ToysRuS this week, Ethan has picked some lego bits for his birthday and Natalia has her Rollerblades for Xmas, it was something we though she needed to try on.
Taking kids to the pool later about to iron outside now.

Doctors

Well it was only a matter of time until Natalia ended up at the doctors, she has conjuctivitus. She has had most the week off. Fiesta Monday but loaded with cold, off school Tuesday, eye started to flare, I sent her back on Wednesday, only to recieve a phonecall whilst I was getting my hair cut, must have looked fab running through Los Cris at that point. Doctors by Thursday, drugged up Friday. She is okay in herself now but has managed to spread it to the other eye.

Busy week at Sol Melia, look out for the new advert in the UK probaly after Xmas which they are currently filming at our hotel.

Not much more to report.

Halloween

I am really looking forward to no alarm clock tomorrow, the first for 2 weeks, as much as I am enjoying my job it is a steep learning curve. The surroundings are glorious though.

It will be lovely to spend tomorrow with Ethan and Natalia. We are beaching during the day and then Halloweening in the evening starting at the top of the hill and then working down to the Glass Spider which is holding a party. The kids are off on Monday, yet another Fiesta. It is no wonder they don't have half term. Apparently it is a big one. I will put some pictures on the blog.

James took the kids to the pool today.

It is 10pm and I am still comfortable in a sleeveless top whilst you Brits are freezing and being hammered by the Tories.

James and I had a nice Italian meal for our anniversary whilst Alex looked after the kids. He bought me a lovely necklace with matching earrings.

We had an interesting night with James clients the other night the average age of adults at our table including James and I must have been about 65. We had to get one guy a wheelchair and push him up the hill, I think the kids were ready to disown us.

Natalia still wants rollerblades for Christmas, I can see many accidents ahead. Ethan an I Pod.

Gran Melia

After a week at work I am totally knackered mentally but positive about Sol Melia. I start selling tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Natalia had an accident this week when she fell over a wall backwards gave us both a nasty shock but she appears to be okay. She has also had a wobble about school but seems much happier now.

Ethan is just plodding along as normal he seems quite content at the moment.

We went to the beach on Wednesday and the kids went to the pool with James yesterday. Apart from that not much to report.

Monkey Park

Yesteday we went to a little none treasure the Monkey Park, it is not a big tourist attraction with only a small number of visitors but we has such a good time getting close to little Monkeys and Lemars feeding them the grapes we took. Also feeding giant tortoises. I think the highlight of the day had to be the cheeky chimps which were in cages but one blew raspberrys whilst another kept sticking his fingers through the bars and wiggling them to say okay give me another grape whislt checking to see his mates couldn't see what he was doing. They just had so much personality we were crying laughing. Needless to say our day couldn't be without incident when Natalia announced that this monkey had a blue bits and was playing with his willy, needless to say the sight of this monkey relieving himself was hilarious for the kids but a bit gross as far as James and I were concerned.http://www.monkeypark.com/ I would say this place is a must for anyone who loves animals, it is a hidden treasure.

Sol Melia, I start at the Gran Melia tomorrow, we are the first British team in, the Spanish are successful so fingers crossed. It is very bizarre that I got the job, suggested it to John, then Patrick the Sales manager quit, I let John know why he hadn't heard anything. John then met up with Pete that night for a drink. Pete had his ferry booked to go home, Pete then called me for the number and now Pete is my manager and John is starting with me, surely I should get a recruitment fee!!!!!!! Pete has been successful in business before and if anyone can succeed in business he can.

Life wouldn't be life without me having a Bridget Jones moment. I went to get my social security number, Wednesday. Took photcopies of my NIE and Passport, and then what I tought were my originals. I get there, take my ticket and wait my turn. I had been told these officials as all Spanish officials can be difficult. Anyway in Spanish I say hello and apologise that my Spanish is poor. Give him the form and photocopies, he asks to see originals, no problem I say in Spanish and hand them to him, he looked at the passport and cracked up, I had only taken Ethan's, by my reaction he must have known it was a genuine error, anyway he quietly slipped Ethan's passport back to me and processed my number anyway.

The Teneriferians are very respectful in their funeral processions, but I accidentally ended up in the middle of one by coming up the wrong alley way at the wrong time. They don't wear black and the police shut the roads so that people can follow the hearse on foot, and follow behind. Once you are in the procession you find it very difficult to get out unless there is another alleyway, which naturally there wasn't. Funerals also aren't solomn affairs either people chatting as the hearse goes less than 5 miles pe hour. Nor could I barge my way through as that was disrespectful so I tried to hang back which was near impossible with the speed the procession was going and the little old ladies with walking sticks at the back.

Ethan has been doing loads of excercise with the wii fit board this week, but seems to think that simply putting deodrant on afterwards disguises the smell. I am proud of him though for being dedicated to excercise.

Better get breakfast then ironing and beach later.

Monkey Park

Good day had by all. Will write more when I am not as fragile
