Halloween

I am really looking forward to no alarm clock tomorrow, the first for 2 weeks, as much as I am enjoying my job it is a steep learning curve. The surroundings are glorious though.

It will be lovely to spend tomorrow with Ethan and Natalia. We are beaching during the day and then Halloweening in the evening starting at the top of the hill and then working down to the Glass Spider which is holding a party. The kids are off on Monday, yet another Fiesta. It is no wonder they don't have half term. Apparently it is a big one. I will put some pictures on the blog.

James took the kids to the pool today.

It is 10pm and I am still comfortable in a sleeveless top whilst you Brits are freezing and being hammered by the Tories.

James and I had a nice Italian meal for our anniversary whilst Alex looked after the kids. He bought me a lovely necklace with matching earrings.

We had an interesting night with James clients the other night the average age of adults at our table including James and I must have been about 65. We had to get one guy a wheelchair and push him up the hill, I think the kids were ready to disown us.

Natalia still wants rollerblades for Christmas, I can see many accidents ahead. Ethan an I Pod.

Gran Melia

After a week at work I am totally knackered mentally but positive about Sol Melia. I start selling tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Natalia had an accident this week when she fell over a wall backwards gave us both a nasty shock but she appears to be okay. She has also had a wobble about school but seems much happier now.

Ethan is just plodding along as normal he seems quite content at the moment.

We went to the beach on Wednesday and the kids went to the pool with James yesterday. Apart from that not much to report.

Monkey Park

Yesteday we went to a little none treasure the Monkey Park, it is not a big tourist attraction with only a small number of visitors but we has such a good time getting close to little Monkeys and Lemars feeding them the grapes we took. Also feeding giant tortoises. I think the highlight of the day had to be the cheeky chimps which were in cages but one blew raspberrys whilst another kept sticking his fingers through the bars and wiggling them to say okay give me another grape whislt checking to see his mates couldn't see what he was doing. They just had so much personality we were crying laughing. Needless to say our day couldn't be without incident when Natalia announced that this monkey had a blue bits and was playing with his willy, needless to say the sight of this monkey relieving himself was hilarious for the kids but a bit gross as far as James and I were concerned.http://www.monkeypark.com/ I would say this place is a must for anyone who loves animals, it is a hidden treasure.

Sol Melia, I start at the Gran Melia tomorrow, we are the first British team in, the Spanish are successful so fingers crossed. It is very bizarre that I got the job, suggested it to John, then Patrick the Sales manager quit, I let John know why he hadn't heard anything. John then met up with Pete that night for a drink. Pete had his ferry booked to go home, Pete then called me for the number and now Pete is my manager and John is starting with me, surely I should get a recruitment fee!!!!!!! Pete has been successful in business before and if anyone can succeed in business he can.

Life wouldn't be life without me having a Bridget Jones moment. I went to get my social security number, Wednesday. Took photcopies of my NIE and Passport, and then what I tought were my originals. I get there, take my ticket and wait my turn. I had been told these officials as all Spanish officials can be difficult. Anyway in Spanish I say hello and apologise that my Spanish is poor. Give him the form and photocopies, he asks to see originals, no problem I say in Spanish and hand them to him, he looked at the passport and cracked up, I had only taken Ethan's, by my reaction he must have known it was a genuine error, anyway he quietly slipped Ethan's passport back to me and processed my number anyway.

The Teneriferians are very respectful in their funeral processions, but I accidentally ended up in the middle of one by coming up the wrong alley way at the wrong time. They don't wear black and the police shut the roads so that people can follow the hearse on foot, and follow behind. Once you are in the procession you find it very difficult to get out unless there is another alleyway, which naturally there wasn't. Funerals also aren't solomn affairs either people chatting as the hearse goes less than 5 miles pe hour. Nor could I barge my way through as that was disrespectful so I tried to hang back which was near impossible with the speed the procession was going and the little old ladies with walking sticks at the back.

Ethan has been doing loads of excercise with the wii fit board this week, but seems to think that simply putting deodrant on afterwards disguises the smell. I am proud of him though for being dedicated to excercise.

Better get breakfast then ironing and beach later.

All photos taken on 10/10/10 after 5pm

Buzby is still with us.

Buzby the Lizard

Yesterday about lunchtime a lizard over a foot long decided to enter our premises and refused to be caught or leave. He took a liking to the extension lead and digital box hence the name Buzby. But go nearf and he'd disappear. We even left the terrace door open when we went out hoping he would take the opportunity to leave but no he was sunning himself contently on the digi box when we got back . I have to say we had half expected him to invite his family to stay. Wish I'd got a picture.

Now whilst I don't mind lizards I would prefer a big one not to be in the house at bedtime. Anyway come 9pm he was still cuddling the wires. We had to close the shutters to stop the midgets getting in. Only had a problem with them last 2 weeks. We left the terrace light on in the hope Buzby could get out through the gaps in shutter and would follow the light. Problem is I now don't know if he is out or hiding ready to make me jump when I least expect it. I am worried about hoovering incase he jumps out and I hurt him.

We had a tiny lizard in the house earlier this week.

In answer to dad's question a while ago we have had a couple of gekkos which have opted to stay outside.

Another Roller Coaster Week

So Monday arrived and I got a call from my future Sales Manager to say he had left the company. So I then phoned HR to find out where that left me as Patrick didn't know. I was due to start on Oct 11. HR said they would be in touch, they then re interviewed me on Thursday and I gave a poor performance and I find out on Monday where I stand. To say I am gutted and confused by this is an understatement, if I didn't love the place so much I would just walk. Our friend John was also interviewed the same day, he finds out Monday. Apparently HR were poker faced with him as well. The thing which might go in my favour is that I greeted the guy in HR and spoke and understood enough to get to the room. He then started to try and interview me in Spanish to which point I had to explain in Spanish I spoke little Spanish apparently he told John he wanted someone who was prepared to learn Spanish and would give free lessons. There is more than one post.

On Wednesday, we had another free Canarian Chicken (or in my case Omlette) night with James company and his clients. One of the perks of his job.

Well six weeks after opening the kids bank accounts the La Liga Stickers and books have eventually arrived. 300 stickers each, so you can guess what James is doing at the moment. I think he is really enjoying it. Amazing how good James Spanish is when it comes to pronuncing footy teams. shame about the rest of the time.

Natalia is making loads of friend the social animal she is, yesterday she went to play with Kaia, had to laugh all the way to Tenerife to become best of buddies with another North Easterner. They apparently had a great time playing High School Musical in the pool.

Went to the official opening of the Glass Spider last night, it is great to be sitting outside chatting and dancing in the middle of October. The kids are so safe, they hangout together and everyone is watching out for them, it is a lovely community. Nearly had a fit when I went to the loo and three girls the combined age of 23 were putting make up on in the mirrors. This is how small the community is Frank's flatmate was one of the cabaret acts, Frank has no connections with the Glass Spider unlike us.

Linda is coming over 15 - 22 November with Kathy, we are really looking forward to it.

Happy Birthday Dad, 21 for the 3rd time!

Georgia's Birthday Party

Well what a night, Georgia's birthday party, at the openning night at her mum's bar the Glass Spider ( the other partner in the business Paul is from Sunderland). Anyway they had a performer on Avril Taylor, she is established in Tenerife and brilliant, very funny and a fantastic voice. Very very versatile.Natalia came totally out of her shell and stole the show, with a little help from Lizzy. Some how between them they managed to manipulate the part of the show where Avril performs Cher songs into Michael Jackson's Thriller. Natalia was dancing, pulling faces and doing cartwheels infront of a packed bar. Ethan sat quietly and coloured in. Natalia has always been a performer infront of her comfort zone but not an audience but milked it last night. So many people commented on her rhythmn and how natural she was. The act said to James afterwards she was a pleasure as it gave anther dimension to her act and they could just bounce off each other. Just the two of them head banging and singing Tina Turner's simply the best was really entertaining. Okay I did want to cringe when she asked the audience if the had seen her do the bum dance, the audience howled. Maybe a star has been born.
The other news is I have got a job as a Vacation Package Sales Exec at Sol Melia . (link attached). I am really looking forward to starting the 11 October.
